The first child of Charles Ervin McGee and Laura Rachel Helms was a much-anticipated arrival.[1] Rachel was a long way from home and had confided in her mother, via a letter, that she wondered if she would ever have children.

Unfortunately, the baby was stillborn on 29 September 1957 at the March Air Force Base hospital in Riverside, Riverside County, California. It was a full-term pregnancy but the umbilical cord was wrapped around the baby's neck. (see source #[2])
He was cremated on 1 October 1957 and the ashes were scattered at Montecito Memorial Park, Riverside, California. Arrangements were handled by Preston Colonial Chapel in Riverside, California.
