1. ↑ The #Gravestone picture at FindAGrave is clear enough to read the birth and death years. The stone is located in New Virginia Cemetery, New Virginia, Warren County, Iowa, approximately 25 miles as the crow flies from Lucas, Iowa, where he is said to have died.
2. ↑ The #1870 Census indicates that he was 23 yrs old and born in Virginia. That would make his birth year about 1847.
3. ↑ The #1880 Census has Harriet enumerated as a widow so Marion died before 1880. Her youngest child, Walter, is three years old. Other records are needed to prove that Walter is Marion's child. Assuming those records are available, that places Marion's death after 1876.
