The info given under "EDWARD McGEHEE & ELIZABETH DeJARNETTE, RE: "Will of John McGehee, dated 1828, St Paul's Psh, Hanover", SEEMS to be another John McGehee.

Deed info in PrEdwardCounty, VA SEEMS to indicate that "John McGehee", who inherited 700 acres from his father's will (Edward, his father), died in PrEdward Co, 1818, with a wife Mary & son Abner McGehee, among others.

In my family is Mary, wife of Charles Barker (some say "of Hanover")...... [NOTE WILL OF JOHN McGEHEE, 1828, naming a daughter "Mary Barker"]... They had a son David Ladd Barker, who in turn had a son Joseph McGhee Barker (1824-1907). I cant help but notice the other McGehee lineage, that of Samuel McGehee, son of William & Mary Agnes Carr/Kerr, who married Mary Ladd, 1722. They were apparently Quakers? Samuel & Mary lived & died in Hanover, like John (ca1735-1828).

Any chance that THIS Samuel McGehee & Mary Ladd are John (d1828, Hanover)'s parents?

Hi Kathy, I have recently been sorting out this family. Even though it is still a bit confused, I think this Samuel is connected to the wrong father. The correct one, I believe, is William MackGehee. Samuel is mentioned in the father's bio. The William that Samuel is currently connected to as father is the nephew of his correct father. Let me know if you have any thoughts about this. I'll also post to the G2G.

Rejected match: This Samuel McGehee was the son of William MackGehee & Mary Carr, and husband of Mary Ladd. He is the cousin of another Samuel McGehee who was the son of William's brother Thomas MackGehee & Ann(e) Baytop, and husband of Elizabeth Ellitt.

Two different Samuels have been mixed up in this profile, maybe through a bad merge. One Samuel married Mary Ladd and died in Hanover County in 1753, per http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/MCGEHEE/2005-05/1117482061

The other Samuel, one of the youngest children of Thomas, married Elizabeth Ellitt and had children who intermarried with the Graves family. This Samuel was too young to have been the husband of Mary Ladd!

McGehee-428 and McGehee-127 are not ready to be merged because: These may have been two men with different fathers and dates of death.
I recommend against merging these two Samuels as they appear (to me at least) to be cousins -- one the son of Thomas (1659-1727) and the other the son of Thomas's brother William. And according to that great RootsWeb reference, Thomas & William's father was the immigrant James MacGregor who changed his name to William (not Thomas) MackGahey/MackGehee. My theory would therefore lead one to recommend changing William 's father from Thomas to William.

If there are indeed two Samuels, it begs the question, which Samuel is the father of my progenitor Susannah McGehee Arnett?

McGehee-428 and McGehee-127 appear to represent the same person because: Maybe this should be converted to a match, but it appears that they are the same person but a lot of information got scrambled somewhere. I've been following this website, which shows Samuel as one of the youngest children of Thomas (quoting Thomas's will), not an elder son of Thomas's son William: http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?opGET&dbeleanor&id=I00328

It seems impossible that Samuel was the husband of Mary Ladd if he was born in 1706 -- he would have been 16 years old at his marriage!
