Hugh's daughter Lucinda Scott McGehee married Francis M. White who would later become President of the Tennessee and Mississippi Railroad. Hugh McGehee and FM White must have had a good (and profitable) relationship with one another, as Hugh McGehee was one of the main sources of funding for this new railroad enterprise, launched in 1852. Soon a Railroad Engine was named the "Hugh McGehee" (and another one was named the F.M. White, and yet a third, the D.S. White). With this Miss and Tenn RR, it seemed to be a "family affair"!

"Before his death in 1855, Hugh McGehee, Sr. owned the entire of section 26, T6S and lived in a cabin on the south half, according to Morris Terry in a letter to Robert C. Johnston, Jr. Terry goes on to relate further: Shelton McGehee became owner of this land after the settlement of his father's estate.

"Besides the land owned by Hugh McGehee, there were three other plantations owned by McGehees. John Scott "Jack" McGehee, Hugh's brother, owned Hollywood plantation, five miles east of Como. Abner Francis McGehee, son of Hugh McGehee, owned the land at McGehee's Crossing, three miles north of Como on the railroad and just across the county line in Tate County, and Miles McGehee, son of John Scott McGehee, had Argyle plantation north of the Melrose community about six miles southwest of Como. Miles sold the land before his death and moved to the Memphis area. Afterwards the house fell into disrepair and was razed. .... The Hugh McGehee cabin was moved in the late 1930's to Birdlands and is still there." (email to RC Johnsston, Jr. dated 3/17/2004)
