George Washington McGehee was born in Louisa County, Virginia in September of 1852 to Lewis C. and Mary Jane Keesaer McGehee. [1] He is listed with his parents in Louisa County on both: the 1860 Census[2] and the 1870 Census.[3]
On May 20, 1878 he married Mary Poindexter (1855–1934) in Putnam County, West Virginia.[4][5] The couple are listed in Chickasaw, Mississippi on the 1900 Census with six children in their household.[6] (Note that at this time only five of their children are linked on Find-a-Grave). He passed away on August 9, 1904 in Mississippi.[7]

G. W. McGehee died Tuesday night after an illness of only a few days. His death was unexpected. Mr. McGehee was a valued employee of the M. & O. Railroad and enjoyed the esteem and confidence of the entire community a well as everyone who bad business dealings with him along the entire system. He leaves a large family and friends to mourn his death. Funeral services at family residence Thursday, at 3 p. m. Burial at Odd Fellow's Cemetery.[8]
