Francis was born in 1777 to Micajah and Nancy McGehee. He died after 1798 and is buried at McGehee Cemetery on the old homestead in Oglethorpe County, Ga.
George Gilmer in First Settlers of Upper Georgia, described him as being "very clever." "He died just after he reached manhood." [1]

Francis McGehee was not born in Oglethorpe County, GA in 1777. This county was not formed until 1793. Assuming he was born in what is now Oglethorpe County, the correct birth location would be Cherokee and Creek lands.
