Complete Series of McGuffey on Exhibit at Library
Famous Readers of Grandfather's Day Collected by Late Mrs. Ellen Cooney Bush, Pioneer Educator
One of the few collections of its kind in the nation, a complete series of McGuffey Readers — familiar to two generations of "little red schoolhouse" students before the turn of the century — has been uncovered in Los Angeles.
The absorbing volumes, which influenced the lives of untold thousands of Americans, many of whom still remember the books with a fondness increased by the passage of years, were gathered by the late Mrs. Ellen Cooney Bush, schoolteacher.
Authentic Americana
One of the city's pioneer educators, Mrs. Bush, who came to Los Angeles in 1887, assembled the series — considered a rare segment of authentic Americana — over a period of many years, during which she searched bookshops all over the country. All the many McGuffey texts including the pictorial primer and the speller, are included in the collection. ... [4]

I have quite a few booklets on "Historic Towns of Washington Co., PA." In Collector Series 3, West Finley Township is the following. Underneath a photograph of a memorial is the folowing: "This Memorial marks the site of the log cabin which William Holmes McGuffey was born on September 23, 1800.....The birthplace is restored at Edison Institute in Greenfield Village, Michigan. The memorial is located on the McCleery Farm in West Finley Twp." Noland 588.
