Biography

Andrew McGuire was born about 1805 in Tazewell County, Virginia. He was the son of Josiah McGuire and Sarah Lockhart.

He married Annabelle Beavers 24 November 1825 in Tazewell Co. They had three daughters: Eleanor, Sarah and Hannah.

Annabelle died in 1877 of tuberculosis.

Andrew wrote his will in 1881 but it was not proved in court until 14 February 1893. The will does not mention a wife and left the entire estate to his widowed daughter, Sarah, and four of her children.

Tazewell County, Virginia Will Book 6, p. 386 (FHL Film 7644312, Image 564); 26 August 1881 (written), 14 February 1893 (proved); In the Name of God Amen, I, Andrew McGuire, a farmer of the County of Tazewell and State of Virginia being of sound mind make this my last Will and Testament, to wit, First, I give devise and bequeath unto Martha Jane Harman my granddaughter, all of my real and personal property or such of it as may remain after my debts and obligations shall have been paid, as follows, to wit, First, The farm upon which I now live together with all the appurtenances and belongings, also whatever in stock and other personal property of which I may die seized, to the exclusion of an and all my other grand children (they having been provided for). Item: Be it understood that my daughter, Sallie Harman, the mother of Martha Jane Harman legatee is to have an equal interest with said Martha Jane Harman in all of the above behest during her (Sallie Harman) life time, the whole to go to said Martha Jane Harman at the death of her mother Sallie Harman. Should Martha Jane Harman legatee die unmarried then the property (real and personal) bequeathed to her by this my last Will shall go to my grandsons, viz., Daniel B. Harman, N. J. D. Harman and Adam Harman to be divided equally between them, but should she marry and have children then the property here bequeathed shall at her death go to her children, as the heirs of her body. I hereby appoint James Bandy of Tazewell County, Virginia as Executor of this my last Will. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal and published and declared this as my last Will at Tazewell County, Virginia, this 26th day of August 1881.
