Biography

Emma McIntosh was born in 1865. She was the daughter of Arabella and John McIntosh... [1]. She married Charles Cudby in 1882[2] She passed away in 1937 age 71 [3].

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Cudby Their golden wedding was celebrated by Mr. and Mrs. Charles Cudby, of Lower Hutt, on Monday. Both Mr. and Mrs. Cudby are New Zealanders and have lived here all their lives. Formerly Miss Emma Cathrine McIntosh, Mrs. Cudby was born in Wellington in 1865 at the Commercial Hotel, which was situated in Willis Street where the Grand Hotel now stands. Mrs. Cudby’s mother came from Yorkshire and her father from Edinburgh. Mr. Cudby was born at Lower Hutt, near the present railway station, 76 years ago. His parents originally came from Paisley, Scotland, and England. At the age of 17 Mrs. Cudby married Mr. Cudby, and they were for some, years in business in the Provincial Hotel, Upper Hutt. They retired from business about eight years ago. For the past 50 years they have lived in the Hutt Valley. Mr. Cudby takes an interest in gardening, and still keenly enjoys a brisk walk. On the occasion of their golden wedding Mr. and Mrs. Cudby received many useful and valuable gifts. They have three daughters, Mrs. M. Wylie, of Wanganui, Mrs. W. H. Futter, of Lower Hutt, and Mrs. C. Ratliffe, of Lower Hutt; one son, Mr. Basil Cudby, of Matamata; 12 grandchildren, and one great-grandson. [4]
