Notes

* The Macleay Chronicle (Kempsey, NSW), Thu 07 Nov 1901,

  • Wedding P.4 Orange Blossoms
  • A quiet but very pretty wedding was celebrated at Fee Dee on Wednesday, 23rd ult., when Mr. T. J. Rossiter and Miss McIntyre were united in the hold bonds of matrimony by the Rev. A. B. Martin. The bride, who looked charming, attired in a beautiful dress of white floral silk with tucked chiffon yoke and fichu, and wore the orthodox veil and blossoms, was given away by Mr. E. Rossiter. Miss L. Rossiter, dressed becomingly in cream grass lawn with white hat trimmed with cream tucked silk and chiffon, acted as bridesmaid, and Mr. J. Rossiter as groomsman. After the ceremony the wedding breakfast was partaken of, when the happy couple left for Kempsey, en route for their future home at Wellington (N.S.W.), where the bridegroom is well and favorably known among a large circle of acquaintances.[1]

The Wingham Chronicle and Manning River Observer

  • Obituary.
  • Mrs. Janet Laurie Rossiter.
  • On Sunday afternoon last, Mrs. Janet Laurie Rossiter, of Nulla Creek, took ill and was later admitted to the Macleay District Hospital for treatment. However, despite every care and attention, the illness proved fatal, and she passed away on Monday night. The late Mrs. Rossiter was the wife of Mr. Thomas J. Rossiter, and was 52 years of age. She was a daughter of the late Mr. C. Mclntyre and Mrs. Mc Intyre (now Mrs. M. Jarman), of Wingham. Married at Pee Dee some 31 years ago, the late Mrs. Rossiter was of a quiet and retiring disposition, beloved and respected by all who had the pleasure of her acquaintance, and her passing is deplored by a wide circle of Upper Macleay residents. Deceased is survived by her husband, two daughters and two sons. The daughters are Mrs. F. W. Schmidt (Nulla), and Mrs. B. Butt (Baker's Creek), and the sons: Messrs. Christopher T. Rossiter and Charles Edward Rossiter (Nulla).Messrs. Jim, Jack and Charles Mc lntyre (Brisbane) are brothers, and Mesdames G. Tucker (Inverell), B. Arnold (Wingham), A. Nalder (Murwillumbah) and George Pund (Jerseyville) are sisters.[2]
  • Many citations of her passing from Taree & Kempsey Papers now under Trove news paper headings. Many Macleay Rossiters are noted under Trove. When time permits i will quote some under each Rossiter name. My Mother & her Siblings often quoted times with Tom & Laurie Rossiter at Bellbrook,
  • As noted in Edith Howland (Rosten) research Tom & Laurie Rossiter raised Edith from a young child after her mother Sarah Jane Howland (Rossiter) Tom's elder sister died.
  • Other notes are that Janet Laurie Rossiter was the Post mistress at Comara Post Office, the title was handed down to my Grandmother Edith Howland (Later Rosten) "who was living with the Rossiter Family" after Janet Laurie Rossiters death.
  • Again noted in the Rosten/Rossiter file that Edward Leo Rosten & Edith Howland were married at Thomas & (Janet) Laurie Rossiter home at Wren's creek Comara on the 23rd July 1911, the bridesmaid was their cousin Eileen Rossiter & best man was Eileen's older brother Chris, & the above quoted family were always very close to Edward & Edith all their lives,
  • Also some trivia on the Rossiter's & Rosten's re the Upper Macleay Scottish band Edward Leo Rosten & "other Rossiter members" played the side drum or Kettle Drum, there is a photo of this band in the Kempsey History Group file with many upper Macleay people noted.
  • My mother Lillian Baker (Rosten) & her Sister Gladys Rosten (Emms) often said about their maternal Aunty Janet Laurie Rossiter why she used her second name of Laurie as her main christian name??? Then because of the close contact with each family my grandmother Edith Rosten called her 3rd child after Laurie Mc intyre Rossiter, Laurie Rosten (O'dell).
  • Also my Aunty, mums sister Gladys has completed a book on their life on the dairy farm at Nulla Creek & Collombatti plus all the connection of family members including Rossiter, Schmidt, Rosten, O’Neil or O’Neill, Plus other families around that period, it is a good read re our connection to many upper Macleay families & the hard times of that period. Book name is GLADYS STORY ISBN 0 9580317 11.
  • I recommend that book re anyone connected to this Family. Glen Felix Baker February 2021, Email bakesoysters@bigpond.com
