Biography

Corporal James McKENZIE served with 71st Regiment of Foot during the American Revolution.

James was born before 1764, probably in Scotland. He was a corporal in the 71st Regiment, Fraser's Highlanders, during the Revolutionary War.^[1]. He arrived unmarried at Guysborough in June 1784 with the Loyalists and disbanded soldiers of the "Associated Departments of the Army and Navy"^[2] where he received a land grant of 200 acres, plus a Town Lot at Guysborough.^[3][4]

Shortly after arriving at Guysborough, James married Hannah Larribee,^[5], and son Simon was born the following year.^[6] Other children include John (bp. 1787, d. 1787),^[7][8] Mary (bp. 1789),^[9] Hannah (bp. 1795),^[10] Elizabeth (bp. 1796),^[11] Daniel (bp.1798),^[12] and Isaiah (bp.1791).^[13]

James is listed in the tax assessment at Guysborough in 1792,^[14] and in 1793.^[15]
