Mr. Ken. McKay Dies as Result of Motor Accident at Ararat Widespread Sympathy Extended to Relatives
General regret was expressed in Sunshine when it became known that Mr Kenneth James McKay, 23 years of age, son of Mrs Jessie McKay and of the late Cr. George McKay, of Talmage St., Sunshine, had, died in the . Ararat Hospital on Monday morning last from injuries received in a motor accident on Saturday evening on the AraratAvoca road, about three miles on the Ararat side of Elmhurst. Mr Kenneth McKay, with two old school pals, Messrs Keith Llewellyn and Keith Ross, were spending the week-end at the home of the latter at Elmhurst. On Saturday night the three young men, in a car driven by Keith Ross, were on their way to a neighboring farm to pick up Mr Ross, sen. Crossing a culvert about a mile and a half from the homestead, a glancing collision occurred with another car, driven by Mr John Brice, a farmer, of New South Wales, who was journeying to Stawell with his father to see his wife's mother, who had met with an accident. Rain was falling heavily at the time, and the impact tore the front wheel from Ross' car. Ken McKay, who was alongside the driver, was thrown against the front of the windscreen and sustained internal injuries. Every effort was made to save his life, but he suffered severely from shock and passed away early on Monday morning. At the inquest conducted on Monday afternoon by Mr J. Moore, deputy coroner, a verdict of accidental death was returned, no blame being attachable to anybody.
Kenneth James McKay was educated at the Sunshine State and Technical Schools and Scotch College, where he was a prefect. He later entered the office of H. V. McKay Massey Harris Pty. Ltd. and was studying accountancy.
Sympathy is felt for his mother (Mrs George McKay) and, his brother (Norman) and four sisters, Dorothy (Mrs McNeill), Violet, Jessie and Edith.
