Robert McKee was born in Ireland about 1738. His parents are unknown. He settled in Back Creek Valley, Virginia in the mid-1760s. According to a descendant writing in 1926, his homestead was about three miles west of Back Creek and 14 miles northwest of Winchester. The correct spelling of his name was McKee, though it can be found as McKey, McKay, McKie, Mackey and Macky.
His first wife was named Elizabeth. She was born about 1740. Her LNAB and ancestry are unknown. They had 9 children together. Elizabeth died on 15 March 1790.
Robert served during the American Revolution as a doctor under LCols C Febiger, G Nicholas, and Col Morgan. He also provided Patriotic Service by furnishing supplies and medical assistance.[1]
In 1775, he bought 414 acres in the Isaac Creek watershed adjoining land which had been surveyed for Mercer Beeson and John Rout. The previous owners Joseph and Rachel (Bull) Lupton to whom Robert paid "forty-five pounds current money of Virginia."
He married second Susannah (Harris) Dalby on 23 January 1793 in Winchester by the Rev. Alexander Balmain. Susannah was the widow of Richard Dalby and the mother of numerous Dalby children in Back Creek Valley. Susannah wrote her will on 6 April 1801.
Robert McKee died on 16 October 1800 on Timber Ridge, Frederick County, Virginia.

  2. Margaret McKee. Born about 1764. She married Thomas Fisher on 4 December 1785. Margaret died before 1800.
  3. William McKee. Born in 1766. He married Martha Hammond on 4 May 1791 in Frederick County. They had 9 children. William died on 9 July 1837.
  4. Robert McKee Jr. Born in 1767. He married Jane Cather on 5 September 1793. They had 9 children. Robert died 30 October 1830.
  5. John McKee. Born about 1771. He married Rebecca Wickersham on 7 August 1792. They had 8 children. John died in September 1825.
  6. Joseph McKee. Born in 1777. he married Elizabeth Reid on 5 February 1799. They had 8 children. Joseph died in 1852.
  7. Jane McKee. Born in 1778. She married William LaFollette on 6 January 1796. They had 11 children.
  8. Bartholomew McKee. Born on 10 February 1799 in Frederick County. He married Nancy Ann Reid on 22 February 1822. They had 10 children. Bartholomew died on 3 June 1864.
  9. Elizabeth McKee. Born on 5 October 1780. She married John Cather. Elizabeth died on 17 April 1847.
  10. Ann McKee. Born about 1783. She married Thomas Davis on 7 November 1801.
  11. Sarah McKee. Born about 1786. She married John Giffin on 25 March 1803. They had 7 children. Sarah died 25 June 1865.
