Biography

David McKinley, known as "David the Weaver," born 1705. The early immigrants to Pennsylvania landed mostly at New Castle, Delaware, the early records of which were destroyed by the British during the Revolutionary War. The Records of York County, Pa., show that a warrant was issued to David McKinley in 1745 for a tract of land in Chanceford Township, York County, Pa. He died in 1757, leaving one daughter and three sons.

David, The Weaver, brought his family to the American Colonies in 1742 and landed at New Castle, Delaware or Baltimore, Maryland. Many Scotch-Irish lived in the barrens west of the Susquehanna, and east of York, PA. David and his family (John, David, Mary and Stephen) settled in this area at Otter Creek in Chanceford Township, York County, PA. The Otter Creek homestead was a two-story hand built stone house and barn. The buildings were still standing and occupied until the late 1970's about 230 years. The land lay along Otter Creek which runs into the Susquehanna River; it was poor farmland and depleted quickly. The property was handed down through the family and several McKinley's still live in the area. David was interested in promoting new roads and was supervisor of roads in 1751 in Chanceford Township.

Weaver-555 and McKinley-189 appear to represent the same person because: same wife and son, intended to be the same person, last name should be McKinley.
