Thomas and his siblings were all listed in the census records as having been born in South Carolina even though the family lived in Alabama during the 1850 Census. If the records were correct, the family lived in Alabama only for a short time, according to Thomas' and Reuben's births. Thomas was age 9 in the 1860 Census and listed as born in SC; Reuben was age 1 in the 1850 Census and also listed as born in SC. The family, therefore, had moved to Alabama just after Reuben's birth, ca. 1849, and moved back to South Carolina just prior to Thomas' ca. 1851 birth.
