Taken from the Library of Virginia Digital Collection: Pension #267, JOHN MCKINNEY, a soldier in the Augusta County Militia -- Point Pleasant 1774. At an Augusta County, Virginia court hearing on 9/20/1785 -- JOHN MCKINNEY, who has been allowed a pension of 10 pounds annually in consideration of wounds & injuries received in the public service, appeared in Court today.

The Court is of the opinion that JOHN MCKINNEY, having lost the use of one arm & other parts disabled (he was injured at the Battle of Point Pleasant), is not able to procure a sustenance by labor & that he ought to be allowed the sum of five pounds annually in addition to his former pension which is ordered to be certified.

Are my eyes lying to me (always a possibility) or does this say that John McKinney-537 was about 11 years old when he married his 1st wife, who would've been 23, according to their birthdates and wedding date?
posted by Joyce (Andrews) Henley
It's probable that John McKinney who married Elinor wasn't the same man as the one who married, Mary Dodd. Notice the will says Barbara's brothers are Joseph and Duke McKinney, later referred to as "my three children", while Samuel and William-John McKinney aren't mentioned. Either way, there would be little evidence available to estimate his birth date. It's probably about time that I checked on my merge request for the two Barbaras.

McKinney-8648 and McKinney-537 appear to represent the same person because: Sorry, the estimated birth date I had for John was too late to notify me of a match before I added him as McKinney-8648.

Please see McKinney-544 and McKinney-537. The two profiles have exact same spouse but they are two different generations. Did she marry father and son? If not, please remove spouse from one. If she did, then please address this information in the bio. Thank you, Teresa (wikitree Arborist)
