Taken from the Library of Virginia Digital Collection: Pension #267, JOHN MCKINNEY, a soldier in the Augusta County Militia -- Point Pleasant 1774. At an Augusta County, Virginia court hearing on 9/20/1785 -- JOHN MCKINNEY, who has been allowed a pension of 10 pounds annually in consideration of wounds & injuries received in the public service, appeared in Court today.
The Court is of the opinion that JOHN MCKINNEY, having lost the use of one arm & other parts disabled (he was injured at the Battle of Point Pleasant), is not able to procure a sustenance by labor & that he ought to be allowed the sum of five pounds annually in addition to his former pension which is ordered to be certified.
