Hiram moved with family twice because of Indian dangers encountered: from Coweta Co., Ga to Chambers Co., AL with his parents prior to 1843, and then from
Chambers Co., AL to Cherokee Co., TX in 1849. He was a teacher, and served as Captain in the CSA during Civil War, Co. K 18th TX inf., Ochiltree regiment. He shortly served in HQ, Transmississippi Dept., Little Rock, Ark. Had many asthma or respiratory problems while there and was relieved of duty to return home.
