Martha Susan McKnight was born about 1815-1818 in Henry County, Georgia, United States. She was the daughter of John McKnight and Martha Sims McKnight.
On March 30, 1835 Nancy McKnight and Wright Cosey (Causey) were issued a marriage license in Coweta County, Georgia, United States. They were married by John Bigby on April 14, 1835.[1]
On the 1850 U. S. Census (28 December 1850) Nancy and Wright were living in Township 20 of Tallapoosa County, Alabama, United States. Wright was working as a mechanic. The birth of their first child in about 1835 would mean they moved to Alabama soon after they married. They had eight children who were all born in Alabama. The children were: Martha age 15, Mary J. age 13, Missoura age 11, Grumbley age 9, George W. age 8, Susan age 6, Sarah P. age 4 and William age 2.[2]
Nancy was still in the family in Alabama in the 1860 U. S. Census. In the 1866 Alabama Census she is missing from the household. Wright and the family moved to Cherokee County, Texas before the 1870 census and she was still missing. Some researchers have her death listed as 1870 in Texas. It is more likely that she died in Alabama between 1860 and 1866. These records and sources need to be added to the profile and a continued search for a death record completed.(Cushing-1054 01:47, 12 August 2021 (UTC))
Both the 1850 census and 1860 show her birth in South Carolina. She was the oldest child in John's family so it is likely she was born before the move to Georgia.(Cushing-1054 01:55, 12 August 2021 (UTC))
