In 1901 Francis was aged 14 and at school at Eton. ^[3] By 1911 he was an MP and living at his father's house at 43 Belgrave Square, Belgravia. ^[4] On 2nd July 1911 he married Barbara Jekyll in Westminster, London. ^[5]

Francis McLaren joined the Royal Naval Volunteer Force firstly and served with the Volunteer Force in Belgium before going to Gallipoli in 1915. In January 1916 he joined the Royal Flying Corps and while undergoing a course of instruction was killed in a flying accident at Montrose in Forfar. ^[6]

He died at sea on 30th August 1917 - Probate - MCLAREN The Honourable Francis Walter Stafford of 8 Little College-street Westminster Middlesex second-lieutenant R.F.C. died 30 August 1917 at sea Probate London 13 December to the Honourable Barbara McLaren widow.
