1860 United States Census, Madison Township, Jay, Indiana: Barbara McGlaughlin is head of household, age 54, with children William, a laborer age 29, Francis M., a farmer age 24, Phidelia A. age 20, Rebecca age 18, Wiley age 13, and Marilda age 2 months.
Rebecca McLaughlin married Pvt. William Fayette Stretsberry on 1 January 1866 in Jay County, Indiana.

A story told by a family member (probably niece Rilla): "Becky's husband always wanted to be in church first and always hurried ahead. He died, and was laid out in the church. On the way to the funeral, Becky said, 'Will, he did it again!'"
