Biography
Family oral history had it that Catherine was born 15 Oct 1853 in Aberdeen, though no date can be found. [It was quite confusing that a Christina McLennan was born on that exact date in Alness, Ross and Cromarty to James McLennan & Mary McIntosh. However, it has been established that that family emigrated to New South Wales in about 1856 and lived in the Armidale area. Christina married Henry Cant and moved to Queensland.]
Catherine Christina's parents had married in Edinburgh in 1846 and were living at the same address in 1851 with no children. The family emigrated from Edinburgh to Launceston, Tasmania on the "Fortune", arriving there on 1 June 1857. They were introduced by James McLennan who seems to have been Roderick's nephew, according to the will of James's brother Donald.
Catherine married James Albert Box on 24 August 1876 at the Independent Chruch, Tamar St, Launceston by license. Catherine's father Roderick was one of the witnesses.
The first child of Catherine and James was born the next day. They went on to ten more children and lived in Lilydale.
Catherine died at the age of 78 in 1931. She is buried at Launceston, Tasmania.
