Hi!

Congratulations, you've been a WikiTree member for a month! We're glad you're here. A few tips to help you dive in even deeper:

Check out Beyond the Basics of WikiTree for a guide on some of our more advanced features such as Projects, Categories, and Merging.

We're very active on our social sites and we have an excellent blog where you'll find our monthly newsletter as well as tips, interviews with our members and guest posts from others in the genealogy community.

As always, I'm here to help if you have any questions!

Guy ~ WikiTree Mentor

Hi ,

Now that you have had a little time to try WikiTree, there are a few more features you may find useful.

Ideas on what to include in a profile can be found in Styles and Standards, including some tips on writing biographies.

If you need to describe an event, an heirloom or a location relevant to your research, you may like to learn about Free Space Profiles.

Lastly, sometimes you'll run into unresponsive profile managers. We have a process for resolving those unfortunate situations.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask via my profile page.

Hello,

Thank you for signing the Honor code. Collaboration, accurate information and good sources are the basis for a great WikiTree.

Feel free to ask me via my profile page if you have any questions.

Guy - Wikitree Mentor / Leader

Thanks, Mark You are now a member of the WikiTree community. Welcome!

Options for getting started:

Key Concepts:

1. Sourcing makes the difference between genealogy and mythology.

2. In order to build one collaborative tree, each person must have only ONE profile.

Let me or another Mentor Team member know if you have questions.

I see you have uploaded a GEDCOM. There are several steps between uploading and importing a GEDCOM.

Please read WikiTree's GEDCOM instructions and/or these alternative step-by-step instructions with screenshots. Also, consider reading discussions about GEDCOMs in our forum, G2G.

A couple of tips:

  • Start by importing only 10-20 profiles, so you can get a sense of the time needed to edit each profile. Then you can decide whether to commit to editing an entire GEDCOM.
  • If your ancestor was born over 200 years ago, she/he may already have a WikiTree profile.

Welcome to WikiTree!

Please read our Honor Code to see what we're all about.

Next, explore the drop-down menus in the upper right corner.

As a guest, you can search for ancestors and participate in G2G, WikiTree’s forum.

Let me know if you have questions.
