Biography

Laurie was born about 1900 in Queensland, Australia and was a child of Patrick McMahon and Elizabeth Love.

Research Notes

A search of the Queensland BDM records between 1893-1920 using only a surname, failed to find a birth for McMahon with these parents other than the children mentioned.

Could this be a marriage for him ? 1923/C/1802; m: 19 April 1923 for Laurence McMahon & Eileen May Newman

Cannot find any more evidence of a death for them in any state BDM index in Australia.

Another thought: As Margaret was born in 1900, could she be the mysterious Laurie with a nickname?

O'Meara-503 01:21, 7 October 2023 (UTC):

  • Another possible marriage is Lawrence James McMahon marriage to Rita Mary Hourigan in 1939 in Victoria 10142/1939.
  • Changed sex at birth to male, but marked uncertain, as Laurie could be female.
  • Could Laurie have been a twin to Margaret Rose (McMahon) Rowe (1900-1991)? Sometimes the twin didn't survive, so birth/death may not have been registered.
  • I have marked existence as uncertain given the research above.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Laurie by comparing test results with other carriers of his ancestors' Y-chromosome or mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Laurie:

Hi

Given that this person has no gender and no sources I did go looking via QLD BDM to see what might be evident. I could find birth, marriage or death records for most of this person's siblings, but nothing in a name similar to this.

I could also not find:

  • any obituaries or death notices via Trove which might assist
  • any military service or other such records via a name search of the National Archives of Australia
  • a burial memorial recorded in the Australian Cemeteries Index or with Find A Grave

I will mark the missing gender as a 'false error' at this stage but this profile really needs to have some sources located and added.
