Thomas was the fifth of twelve children in the family of Thomas and Rose McCormick McMahon. He grew up on the family farm and attended school in Wellesley, Ontario.[1][2] He was still living on the family farm when he was 27.[3]
Tom married Margaret Rafferty when he was 30 years old.[4] Tom went to work on his aunt Sarah McMahon's farm in Wellesley, and he and Margaret shared a home with Sarah, raising their growing family.[5] By 1911, Thomas had his own farm, perhaps having bought his aunt's farm.[6]He was still farming in Wellesley in 1921.[7]
Tom died at age 81 of stomach cancer in St. Mary's Hospital in Kitchener.[8] He is buried with his wife and grandson Dennis in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Macton, Ontario.[9]
