Biography

John was born on 6 June 1755 at Frederick County, Virginia.2,3,4 He was the son of John McMachen and Isabella Barnes. John, John McMachen's child, resided with John at Guilford County, North Carolina, in March 1773. As an inhabitant of the County, he signed a petition to Josiah Martin Esquire, Governor of North Carolina..5 He married Margaret Curley circa 1775.2 John served in the military in 1777 at Augusta County, Virginia, in.3 John registered to pay taxes in 1778 at Been's District, Washington County, Tennessee.6 John received a Land Grant in 1782 at Washington County, Tennessee, for 100 acres (grant 62).7 John received a Land Grant in 1782 at Washington County, Tennessee, for 300 acres at the head of Knob Creek (grant 118).8 John received a Land Grant on 24 October 1782 at Washington County, Tennessee, for 300 acres on west fork of Knob Creek (grant 162).9,10 He sold property to Charles Hay on 10 February 1785 at Washington County, Tennessee,, 173 acres on Indian Ridge, part of 1782 North Carolina grants (pages 69-71).11 He sold property to William Fain on 15 February 1786 at Washington County, Tennessee,, 300 acres on Knob Creek (part of October 24, 1782 NC grant), page 56-57.12 John registered to pay taxes in 1787 at Fain's Company, Washington County, Tennessee.
