Margaret Meria McMillan (married name Palmer) was born on 15 April 1885 in Brunswick, Victoria, Australia, the daughter of Catherine (Burns) McMillan and Robert Grant McMillan.^{[citation needed]}

She was baptised on 17 May 1885 at St Pauls in Coburg, Victoria.^{[citation needed]}
