Ann McNabb was born in 1831 most-likely in Stirlingshire, Scotland, as that is where her father was serving in the 75th Regiment, Gordon Highlanders, British Army (Scottish Division). Her parents were:[1]
They were married on July 4, 1825, in Fermoy, Cork, Ireland, where Robert McNabb was stationed in the Army at that time. Ann was the couple's 2nd of 8 children; her older brother, Edward Fitzgerald McNabb, was born in 1828 in Scotland, showing that the family had already moved there from Ireland before her 1830 birth.[2] With her parents and family, Ann McNabb boarded "Indus" at Gravesend, England, bound for New Zealand, on October 1, 1842. Arriving in Nelson, New Zealand on February 5, 1843, they pioneered the Tasman Bay region, settling near Riwaka, about 52 kilometers northwest of the city of Nelson. Ann had 2 younger siblings born in Riwaka, Tasman Region, South Island, New Zealand.[3] Ann's father died in Riwaka on June 11, 1857 and is buried there in the Pioneers Cemetery with a memorial plaque. [4]
On August 23, 1859, in Nelson City, Nelson, New Zealand, Ann McNabb married Thomas Snow, born in England in May 1833. He was 25 years old and she was about 28. They were married by the Rev. T. Calder. The couple lived in Nelson and had the following children there: [5]
Between 1870 and 1876 Thomas Snow and his family lived at Victoria House, Trafalgar St, Nelson, New Zealand. Ann (McNabb) Snow died on November 25, 1913, at Wellington. [7] [8] She is buried at the Karori Cemetery, Wellington, NZ. [9]
Her husband survived her passing for about 5 years. Thomas Snow died in Westport, West Coast, New Zealand in 1918. He was 83 years old.[10]
