John McNamara was born in 1846 in Edenfield, Lancashire, England[1]. He was the son of Jane Hickey and William McNamara.
1851, 4 year old, John McNAMARA was living in North Side Of The Hyde And Manchester Turnpike Road, Denton, Lancashire, England with his parents, William (age 36, Sub Contractor) and Jane (30); siblings, Thomas (2) and Mary (1) and Hariet JOHNSON (17, General Servant)[2]
The barque, Progress set sail from Liverpool, England on 22 July 1852 with the McNAMARA family among the passengers and arrived in Hobson's Bay, Colony of Victoria on 9 November 1852[3][4]. The McNAMARA family consisted of parents, William (age 37, listed as farmer) and Jane (29) and their children, John (6), Thomas (4), Amelia (2) and infant, William.
McNAMARA.—On the 22nd September, 1923, at the residence of his son-in-law, F. J. Whiting, 52 Main street, Kew, John McNamara, late Chief Superintendent Ways and Works Branch, Victorian Railways, loving father of John, William, Albert, Leonara, Thomas and George, aged 76 years. R.I.P.
