Biography

Richard was born about 1731. Richard McPherson ... He passed away about 1826.

On 29 Apr 1797 he purchased land of 210 acres on the French Broad River in Jefferson, Tennessee for 280 pounds from his son, Henry McPherson, the recording of which (on 7 Jun 1797) was witnessed by his son Daniel. The land was adjacent to Henry and Barton McPherson's lands, and to a Mr. Hayny. Recorded in Book 53, p. 14.[1]

He died sometime after 1802, probably in Jefferson County, Tennessee, as he is recorded in various land transactions on that state from 1792 to 1802, including signing a deed conveying 70 acres to John Matlock in Grainger County, Tennessee in 1802. Though he apparently still owned land in Virginia (being listed in the Virginia tax records at various times during this period) his appearances to sign and register deeds in Tennessee indicate he is physically resident in Tennessee.[2]
