Jane Herd, daughter of Robert Herd and Jean Eaton, was born 11 Apr 1827 and baptised 22 Apr 1827 in Montrose, Angus, Scotland. [1]

In 1841 Jane Herd, age 14 occupation milliner, is living in Baltic street, Montrose, Angus with her father Robert (age 50, occupation flax spinning) mother Jane (age 50) and sisters Agnes (age 25, milliner) and Betty (age 20, milliner). [3]
In 1851 Jane McPherson (age 23, born Montrose) and her husband William McPherson (age 25, occupation coachman, born Marykirk, Kincardinshire) live in Laruston, Kincardinshire. [4]
