Biography

p 162 On margin: D D to William McQueen August 1780. This indenture made the 15th day of February 1779 between Alexander McQueen of the County of Culpeper of one part and William McQueen of the same County witnesseth that the said Alexander McQueen for good causes but more for the natural love which he do bear towards his brother William and the sum of five shillings hath granted unto the said William McQueen his heirs land in Culpeper in the Great Fork of Rappahannock County River containing two hundred acres of land and is bounded begining at three white oaks thence north thence south to a red oak saplin in said Tutt's line thence south to the begining said Alexander McQueen hath set his hand and fixed his seal the day and year above written. [Signed] Alexander McQueen. At a court held for Culpeper County the 15th of February 1779 this indented deed of gift ordered to be recorded.[1]

pp 373-375 On margin: D D to self April 1785 This indenture made this 11th of June 1779 between Alexander McQueen, Junr of County of Culpeper of one part and James Whitehead of the same County witnesseth that said Alexander McQueen for sum Fifty two pounds ten shillings hath granted unto the said James Whitehead his heirs land in said County adjoing the plantation whereon the said James Whitehead now lives begining at one box oak corner to said Whitehead and Mr. Berkett Davenport runing thence north to two white oaks in said davenports line thence north to the begining containing seventeen acres and one half of land.... [signed] Alexander McQueen. Presents of us James Pendleton, Samuel Clayton, William McQueen At a court held for Culpeper County the 21st day of June 1779. This indenture ordered to be recorded.[2]

pp 411-412 On Margin D D to William McQueen Aug 1780 To all to whom know ye that I, Alexander McQueen Junr of Culpeper County for natural love which I do bear to my brother William McQueen of said County and for five shillings current money of Virginia I do grant to the said William McQueen his heirs one negroe boy named Jim which said negroe by Jim I do hereby warrant against clame of any person. In witness whereof I have sent my hand and seal this 14th day of August 1779. [signed] Alexander McQueen. At a court held for Culpeper County the 16th of August 1779. This indenture deed of gift ordered to be recorded.[3]

To all to whom these presents may come know ye that I Alexander McQueen Junior of Culpeper County in consideration fo the natural live good will and affection which I have and do bear to my sister, Susanna McQueen now married to Isaac McQueen of the said County and for the further consideration of five shillings current money to me in hand paid by these presents do bargain and sell deliver and confirm unto Susanna McQueen alias Green her heirs one negroe girl named Rachell wich said negro girl I give together with her future increase to her & her heirs. I do warrant and hereby defend the said Negro unto said Susanna McQueen alias Green her heirs against the claim of any person whatsoever; In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 23d day of September 1786. Signed acknowledged and delivered in the prescense of Nathaniel Pendleton, Lunsford Carter. Signed Alexander McQueen. At a court held for Culpeper County October 16th 1786. This deed of gift from Alexander McQueen to Susanna McQueen alias Green was proved gy the oaths of Nathaniel Pendleton & Lunsford Carter witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded. During its session begun in October 1780 the General Assembly passed an act designed to fill the state?s quota of troops for the Continental Army by drafting militiamen to serve for eighteen months. Culpeper County was required to supply 106 men. This was done by dividing the militia into 106 classes and drafting a man from each class by lot. 1

Alex'r. McQueen appeared on list no. 10 (he was not drafted, but did volunteer later).
