Thomas Nairn McQueen b. 24 Feb 1816 Clackmannan, Clackmannanshire, Scotland d. 26 Feb 1880 Galesburg, Knox, IL m.1. Jane (?) in Ireland m.2. Eliza T Gayle 16 Apr 1855 Fayette County, IN. Named for his maternal grandfather. Leaving home, he moved to Waterford where he married Jane. Their first child, James, died in 1846 and another son, William, was born the same year. Thomas MacQueen, Merchant, arrived in New York from Liverpool on 8 Sept 1848 as a passenger on the Richard Alsop. He was in Ohio when he met his second wife. By 1856 he was in Nashville. On the 1860 Census he is a grocer, married to Eliza T. and they have a son, Alfred, born in 1856. Thomas’ son William is also listed in the household. William fought for the Union in the Civil War, returned home and married only to die a few years later. Thomas’ grocery business may have failed because he is listed as a laborer on the 1870 Census. Although Thomas’ son Alfred survived him, he died without being married.
