Some of the information for Moses and descendants is from the letters to Davis L. McWhorter from Volley B. McWhorter, gr-grandson of Moses Allen McWhorter, in 1932. Davis L. McWhorter added this comment to one of those letter: "Moses McWhorter of Abbeville Dist.(County) left will recorded in Edgefield Co., S. C. dated and recorded 1797. He named three sons, John, Landon, and Moses(Junior)by his first wife, and five children by his second wife. She was Elizabeth Puckett according to her grandchildren. "

Will of Moses Mackquarter (McQuirter) Box 43, pkg 1764, Edgefield Co., SC., files July 1797

"In the name of God amen, I Moses Mcqurter being in perfect mind and memory do make this my last will and testament as followeth, to wit my desire is that out of my Estate all my just debts should be paid viz..I give unto my loving wife Elizabeth and her children all of my estate during her natural life and widowhood. The use of my Estate, and if she should marry again I give her the third of all my estate during her life and after her death it to be left to all her children, George Allen, and Salley Duglass, Daniel Puckett, Allen Marlin, Gene(Jane) Allen, And my son Moses I give one (iron) & joiner and jack plain and all my turning tools except one chissel. Several other tools the names is not mention, and my son Landon I give all the rest of my tools one chisel. And my son John I give one grown horse, ? ? ? ? I was to pay & has paid him sixteen and (six) pence. And lastly, I appoint Thomas Adams Executor and my wife Elizabeth Execuricks of this my last will and testament, Revoking all others and I ? all written wills made before by me, as wittiness my hand this twentieth day of February one thousand seven hundred ? . Proven on the oath of Sarah Howell and recorded 3 July 1797 Recorded in Will Book A, from pages 126 to 127. July term, 1797 and examined by R. Tutt, Jr.

Appraisement of the estate of Moses Mackquarter: Sept 29, 1797 by ? Cobb, Charles Martin, John Cheney. Shows tools as well as some hogs, horses, and household items, valued at ca $72.00. In the order for appraisement the name was written Moses McWhirter." Change Date: 6 Feb 2006 at 08:57:53
