Beverly Joan "Joan" McWilliams was born 17 February 1928^[1] in Des Moines, Polk, Iowa to Edward V. McWilliams and Irene D. Sharr.^[2][3]

The McWilliams were living at 1105 Washington Avenue in Des Moines in 1930.^[4] The home included Edward Sr, Irene, Edward Jr, Beverly, and Jean. They were renting the home for $25 a month. Edward was working as a paint contractor.

The 1940 US Census found the McWilliams family living at 3840 2nd in Des Moines, Polk, Iowa.^[5] Edward was working for himself as a general building contractor. The household also included Irene, and their children, Edward Jr, Beverly J, Jean L, and Joy I.

Joan attended and graduated from North High School, Des Moines, Iowa.^[2][6] She went on to attend Drake University, pursuing a degree in education.^[2][1][7] She worked for a time for Banker's Life, before devoting the remainder of her life to her family.^[2][1]

Joan and Dick Haller were married 11 July 1947 in Des Moines, Polk, Iowa.^[2][1]

In 1950, the Hallers were living at 4019 10th St. in Des Moines, Iowa. Joan was working as a clerk at a life insurance company, while Dick was an electrical appliance salesman.^[8]

The Hallers attended and were members of Highland Park Christian Church, Des Moines, Polk, Iowa.^[2]

Joan's cooking was revered by her family. A blossoming collection of those recipes is homed at Joan's Delicious Dishes.^[9]

Joan passed away after many years of pain and heart trouble on 10 August 2014, surrounded by her family at Taylor House, Des Moines, Polk, Iowa.^[2][9] Her memorial was held graveside at Highland Memorial Gardens, Des Moines, Iowa 15 August 2014, and followed by a gathering at Hamilton's to reminisce about her life.^[2][9][10]
