Obituary:

PIONEER PASSES DOWN LONG TRAIL - EDWARD MCORMICK DIES AT HIS HOME IN CAPITAL CITY AT AN EARLY HOUR SUNDAY MORNING-DEATH DUE TO A SECOND STROKE OF PARALYSIS-FUNERAL SERVICES TO BE HELD TUESDAY MORNING.

Edward McCormick one of the prominent pioneers of the capital city, passed away at his home on Front Street about 2:15 o'clock Sunday morning, aged 78 years. Death was due to a stroke of paralysis which he received the preceding Tuesday, following a stroke about a year ago.

Edward McCormick was born in the county Roscommon, Ireland, March 24, 1834. His farther and mother moved to Edinburgh, Scotland when he was a boy, and here he resided until the later sixties. In 1863 he married in Edinburgh Miss Ann McDonald, and about five years later he emigrated to America making his first home in St. Louis, MO.

In 1873, Mr. and Mrs. McCormick came to Bismarck, then a new town on the western frontier, and they remained here until they passed away. Mr. McCormick was in the employ of the Northern Pacific during those years until about six years ago, when failing eyesight caused him to retire. His wife passed away July 20 1904, and since that time one of his daughters has kept house for her father.

Five sons and three daughters survive the deceased. The elder son, Edward, has not been heard from for several years, the last news from him having com from Mexico. It is uncertain whether or not he still alive, the other sons Frank , manager of the Bismarck branch Washburn Lignite Coal company; Thomas and James, both of Bismarck, and son John, who resides in Ogden, Utah. The surviving daughters are Mrs. William Jager, Rose and Mary, all of this city.

Funeral services will be held at St. Mary's pro-cathedral Tuesday morning, .Very Rev Father Hiltner officiating. Interment will be made in St. Mary's cemetery.

Edward McCormick possessed that faculty of making friends with everyone. Genial, kind hearted, a man of sterling integrity and worth, he numbered his friends by hundreds, and there is sincere grief in the entire community over his death. One more of Bismarck's pioneers has gone . One by one they pass down the long trail from whence there is no return.
