Biography

Joseph M. Mead was born in 1802 in New York. His parents were Caleb Mead and Mary Morse. He married Delight Hinckley on March 04, 1825, in Pennsylvania. Together they had 7 children:

  • Page 154, claim # 171,604 Text: Info from War of 1812 record provided by Marlene Steele, 1979: Records state that no Caleb Mead could be found on the rolls of the War of 1812. Claim # 171,604 On 14 February 1852 Caleb Mead (who could write because he signed his own name) applied for a land bounty for service in the war of 1812. He claimed that he was drafted in the Company of Captain Foster McPherson in Roxbury, Delaware, New York on the first Monday in September 1814. He left about three days later to Catskill on the Hudson River and then to New York City for the term of three months. The discharge was sent to him in Roxbury in December of 1814. At the time of this application Caleb was 73 years old and a resident of Swanton Twp., Fulton County Ohio. This claim was suspended on September 23, 1853. On November 30, 1853, Mary Mead, age 72, resident of Fulton Co. Ohio, widow of Caleb Mead applied for land bounty. She married Caleb Mead at Roxberry New York (Delaware Co.) on October 1, 1800, by William Warren, Minister. Her maiden name- Mary Morse. Another document was included by his brother, Amos Mead, who lived near him in Fulton Co. He was present at their wedding. Joseph M. Mead also verified these facts.
