Biography

Lockwood Mead was born about 1760 at Greenwich and served in the Connecticut militia during the American Revolution. [1]

1776 Project
Private Lockwood Mead Sr. served with 9th Regiment, Connecticut Militia during the American Revolution.

He mustered from 12-15 Jan 1776 for the anticipated Expedition to Long Island, as a private in Captain Abraham Mead's Company of Colonel David Waterbury's Connecticut Militia Regiment; [2] and then appeared on the August 1776 payroll of the same company engaged in the Expedition to New York. [3] He next appeared on a muster roll from 01 Nov 1776 to 11 Jan 1777 with Captain Abraham Mead's Company, this time assigned to Colonel John Mead's Regiment "at the Saw Pits under General Wooster." [4] [5]

He married by about 1785-86 to Mercy Weed of Lanesboro, Massachusetts and they settled at Hinesburg, Vermont where they raised their children: [6] [7] [8] [9]

Research Notes

Spencer P. Mead's History and Genealogy of the Mead Family shows that Lockwood, Jr. married Sarah ____ and died 30 Mar 1872. [1]

There is a grave at North Castle, Westchester County, New York for a Lockwood Mead who died 13 Jun 1854, aged 75 years & 11 months, and whose widow Sally was buried next to him. [16] That grave was linked as the son of this Lockwood, Sr. (1760-1833), but based on census records and the date of death provided by Spencer P. Mead, he cannot by the son of this Lockwood, Sr.
