Although the relation of an individual to the head of a family was not recorded on the 1841 Census of England, the fact that Thomas MEAD was living in the household of George MEAD strongly suggests that Thomas was George's son, and therefore also of Kitty ABRAHAM[1]. The 1851 Census of England confirms that Thomas was the son of George by positively identifying Thomas as the brother of Joseph MEAD, who is known to have been a son of George[2]. Additionally, this census also shows that Thomas had a daughter named Kitty, who was presumably named after his mother. Further, the census shows that Thomas was the neighbour of both his sister Mary MEAD and brother-in-law William CLARK, and an ABRAHAM family likely connected to his mother, lending support to the conclusion that Thomas was the son of George and Kitty. Thomas' year of birth was roughly calculated from the ages shown for him on the 1841[3], 1851[4], 1861[5], 1871[6], 1881[7] and 1891[8] census returns of England, all of which suggest a birth year for Thomas ranging somewhere between 1826 to 1828. Thomas' specific place of birth was recorded on all of the noted census returns excepting the 1841, which simply noted whether or not an individual was born in the county they were residing in at the time of the census. Unfortunately, a baptism for Thomas does not appear in the available Bishop's Transcripts for the parish registers for Marsworth[9].
Thomas’ Marriage
The given name of Thomas’ wife is known from the 1851 through 1891 census returns of England. The England & Wales Civil Registration Indexes show the entry for Thomas' marriage in 1846 to 'Ann LAMBERT'[10]. While the index entry gives his wife's surname as LAMBOURN, the 1851 Census of England shows 'Sarah', the daughter of 'Thomas and Ann', visiting her grandparents who are recorded with the surname 'LAMBERT'[11].
Thomas’ Death
Considering that Thomas last appears in census returns in 1891[12], he is presumed to have passed away after that year. His death was not researched.
