Caleb Mead was born on September 07, 1737 in Greenwich, Fairfield County, Connecticut. His parents were Caleb Mead and Hannah Rundle. [1][2]

Marriage and Children

He married Orpha Hobby on June 22, 1788 in Greenwich, Connecticut. [1]

Note: According to Ye Historie of ye Town of Greenwich ... by Spencer P. Mead, "Mary Hobby [sister of Jonathan Hobby who married Caleb's sister, Hannah] married Caleb Mead born in 1737."[3] Unclear whether this is the identical Caleb Mead.

I, Caleb Mead of Pound Ridge in the County of Westchester and state of New York...this 22 day of July 1800, do make and publish my last Will and Testament...I give to my loving wife Amy Mead the use of 1/3 of my house and lands...during her natural life and then go to my son Caleb...I give to my son Caleb Mead all of my real and personal estate that remains after...the legacies to my daughters. I give to my daughter Rachel $5.00...to my daughter Hulda a good feather bed...my daughter Hannah $5.00...to my daughter Elizabeth $2.00...to my daughter Jemime...goods to make the sum of $120.00...to my daughter Rebecca...goods to make the sum of $125.00. I...appoint my son Caleb and Enoch Mead, Esquire Executors of this my last Will and Testament...in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal... Caleb Mead Witnesses William Fancher, Stephen Rockwell, James Sarles

Be it remembered that on the 24th day of September 1800, Enoch Mead...was duly sworn to the...execution of the said will. signed Philip Pell [6]


Research Notes

According to the late Edgar Thorn Mead - Caleb Mead was commissioned as a Lieutenant in May of 1745 in the Stanwich or East Train Band Militia. He was a Captain when he and all of his sons except lame Stephen fought in the Revolution at the battle of White Plains.
