Two Nehemiahs, both born in 1721. The other Nehemiah Mead was the son of Benjamin Mead, and he remained in Greenwich.

Origin

Nehemiah was born on 17 November 1721 in Greenwich, the son of Jonathan Mead and Esther Butler.

Occupation

Nehemiah was a farmer. He and his twin brother, Enos lived at Crum Elbow, Dutchess County, New York.[1]

January 27, 1764, Nehemiah's Will was entered into probate, so he must have died sometime shortly before that.[1](See Page 22 of Weaver)

Will of Nehemiah Mead written May 21, 1760

In the name of God Amen. The twenty first day of May Anno Dominie, one thousand seven hundred and sixty. I, Nehemiah Mead of Crom Elbow precinct in Dutchess county and province of New York, yeoman, being very sick and weak in body but of perfect mind and memory...I give devise and dispose of same in the following manner and form.

I give to my well beloved wife Sarah Mead one third part of all my land and moveables in Crom Elbow precinct above said during her life. And the moveables forever, excepting one hundred acres which I bought of Godfried Hendrick she shall have no part and at her decease I give it to my daughter Sarah Mead to her and her heirs and assigns forever.

I give the remainder of my lands to my four sons; to Nehemiah Mead, Joseph Mead, Phillip Mead and Noah Mead. That is to say all my land or farm where I now live, excepting one hundred acres which I bought of Godfried Hendrick, to them and their heirs and assigns forever to be equally divided among them after Sarah Mead, my wife has had her third part.

I likewise Constitute, make and ordain my two brothers, Enos Mead and Jonathan Mead, both of Crum Elbow preceinct above, to be my executors of this my last will and testament and empower them to sell that hundred acres of land I bought of Godfried Hendrick and my moveable estate, that is to say, the two thirds I have not given to my wife, and pay my debts with the produce and if any be left to be equally divided among my children and I do hereby give a certain right of Land which I put in for called the Delaware Right unto my four sons heirs and assigns forever, and I do hereby utterly Disallow, Revoke and disannul all and every other testaments, wills, legacies by me in any ways before this time named, willed and bequeathed. Ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my Last Will and Testament in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year above written. Signed Sealed, Published pronounced and Declared by the said Nehemiah Mead as his last will and testament in the presents of us subscribers. This will was recorded and proved on Oct 1st, 1760 and put on file. On January 27, 1764 the will was probated in Dutchess, County, NY[2]
