Biography

  • Jared Mead was born 15 Dec 1738 in Greenwich, Fairfield County, Connecticut. He was the son of Ebenezer Mead Hannah Brown. "Jared Mead was the 10th son in a family of 12 children and was born in the Greenwich, Conn, in the same house where he always lived through a long and honorable life, and died June 8. 1832. He was a farmer by occupation, and owned his fathers farm...He married Lydia, daughter of Daniel Smith, and had 7 children...all of whom are now dead (1880) except for Alvan. Both Mr. and Mrs. Mead were members of the Congregational Church of Greenwich, Conn. Mrs. Mead died May 27, 1827."[1]

1824 May 20 Will of Jared Mead, late of Greenwich, names his children Daniel Smith, Jared, Alvan, Lydia Lockwood, Alma, Hannah - wife of Jonas Mead, grandchildren of Zette, deceased wife of Colonel Ebenezer Mead. Owned land in Greenwich, OH. Executors: sons Daniel and Alvan. 1832, Aug 24 Probated. Son Daniel being now deceased, Alvan received Letters.
