Thomas Whitamore married Mary Meade in Hitchin St Mary on 16 September 1591. [1] The average age of women at their first marriage was in their mid-twenties, so that would mean Mary Meade was probably born about 1561-71. The precise date and location of her birth/christening are unknown. There is absolutely no evidence that she is the daughter of John Meade of Wedmore, Somerset, and "Michael".
Mary might theoretically have been from Graveley, about three miles east of Hitchin. In 1545 John Mede and Edward Mede of Chyffeld (Chesfield) and Graveley were assessed for tax of one penny each [2] in the lay subsidy. In February 1584, John Meade (probably not the same man as in 1545) was on the jury of a session of Hertfordshire assizes held at Graveley [3].
