Biography

Anne was born about 1757 in Cumberland County, Virginia. Her parents were Jonas Meador and Mary Holloway. [1]

She married Micajah Compton about 1779 in Cumberland County, Virginia. [2] By the time the 1790 census was taken, the Compton family had removed to South Carolina where they are found in census records of Laurens County. [3]

Research Notes

Anne was still a minor in 1773 when her father died, making her year of birth after 1752. In 1778, Thomas Kevil was paid for 5 years boarding and one year schooling for Anne. This would make her year of birth no earlier than 1757.

Meador-370 and Meador-112 appear to represent the same person because: Unknown daughter (Meador) Compton (Meador-370) is the same as Anne Meador (Meador-112) and should be merged.

See: Cumberland County VA chancery court case (1779-008) Micajah Compton and wife et al VS administrator of Jonas Meador et al. The case concerns the division of Jonas Meador Jr's estate. All eight daughters are listed along with the husbands of the ones who are married at this time. ". . .Micajah Compton and Anna his wife . . ."

Meador-322 and Meador-112 appear to represent the same person because: same parents, source indicates only one daughter named Anne
