CAUTION: James has been said, without documentation, to have invested in the Spindle Top Oil Co. along with his brother Reuben.[1] Since the Spindltop oil well did not exist until nine years after James died, this is clearly impossible. It does suggest, however, that the names of Reuben and James have been used in one or more claims that are part of the Spindletop Scam.
