CAUTION: James has been said, without documentation, to have invested in the Spindle Top Oil Co. along with his brother Reuben.[1] Since the Spindltop oil well did not exist until nine years after James died, this is clearly impossible. It does suggest, however, that the names of Reuben and James have been used in one or more claims that are part of the Spindletop Scam.

Biography

Origins

James Meadors was born 26 March 1816 in Whitley County, Kentucky,[2] the son of Reuben Meadors and Jane Campbell.[3][4][5]

Marriage

James married Frances Creekmore, daughter of Ballentine Ransom Creekmore and his first wife Elizabeth, on 13 May 1838 in Campbell County, Tennessee, the marriage performed by Michael Broyles, a Minister of the Gospel.[5]

Death

James died 18 May 1892, in Whitley County, Kentucky, and is buried in Jellico Creek Cemetery in Williamsburg, Whitley County, Kentucky.[2][8]

    James was the administrator of his father's estate, and was named as one of his father's heirs.
