Mary Catherine's parents were Jacob M. Mefford (1829 - 1921) and Sarah F. Critchlow Mefford (1832 - 1908). [1] She married Daniel Boone Hanks about 1873. [2]
Mrs. D. B. Hanks Succumbs to a Stroke of Paralysis After Week's Illness
Mrs. Mollie Catherine Hanks, widow of the late D. B. Hanks, a native of Missouri, and 68 years of age, died at the family home near Flournoy yesterday.
Mrs. Hanks suffered a stroke of paralysis one year ago, but recovered and seemed to be as well as ever. On Monday, August 20, however, she suffered a second stroke, and lingered for a week.

Mr. and Mrs. Hanks came to this section forty-five years ago, and gave splendid help in the pioneer development of southern Tehama county. The husband passed away two years ago.
Thirteen children, all of whom are alive, survive the mother and all but one are now at the family home, one daughter being ill in a hospital at San Francisco.
Aged 45. Includes husband, Daniel B. (52), and children Arthur (18), Effie M. (15), Silas (12), Earnest B. (10), Eugene (8), Albert (7), and Mabel (2). All the children were born in California.
