Biography

Élisabeth Melanson is the descendant of a Huguenot emigrant.

Elisabeth Melanson was born in about 1673 in Port Royal. She was the daughter of Charles Melanson and Marie Dugas.[1]

In 1686, at Port Royal, Isabelle [sic], aged 13, was living with her parents, Charles MELANSON, aged 44, and Marie DUGAS, aged 38, and her six siblings: Charles, aged 11, Madeleine, aged 9, Marie, aged 7, Francoise, aged 4, and twins, Pierre and Ambroise, aged 10 months. They owned 1 gun and were living on 6 arpents of cultivable land with 20 cattle, 12 sheep, and 6 hogs.[2]

In 1689 she married Michel dit Michaud Bourg.[1]. Michel was born at Port Royal about 1665. He was the son of Francois Bourg and Marguerite Boudrot.[3]Their first child was born in 1690. Altogether, they had 11 children.

In 1693, at Port Royal, Elisabeth MELANCON [sic], aged 21, was living with her husband, Michel BOURG, aged 28, and their two children: Marguerite, aged 3, and Michel, aged 1. They were living on 5 arpents of cultivable land with 8 cattle, 12 sheep, and 2 pigs.[4]

By 1698 the family moved to Beaubassin as shown in the census. Her husband was listed as Mel Bourg.[5]

The census in 1700 shows that there were 5 young children in the family home. No land or farm animals were listed.[6] Michel and Élisabeth continued to raise their children in Beaubassin as shown in the subsequent censuses.[7][8][9]

By 1714 they already had their full family of 11 children.[10]

Melanson-552 and Melanson-23 appear to represent the same person because: Same husband, same birth date and

Melanson-552 's son Pierre and Melanson-23's son Jean Baptiste I was going up my own tree and at these 2, the tree splits between the 2... also requested a merge for the husband, Michel Bourg (Bourg-743 and Bourg-77)
