Rob, My father Robert Clarke Hopkins did most of the research that I have on Minnie Elizabeth Melton and Calvin Nance Melton. He has been dead for 15 years. Most of his sources were as old or older than he was but I'll give the sources of the information he got on this line.

I have no record of Minnie Elizabeth Melton marrying anyone named Wilkins. We do have records that she married an Ephraim Lewis Powers and an Edward R. Welborn.

The sources for the information on Ephraim Powers and Minnie Elizabeth Melton came from Mary S. Melton, Lila M. Powers, my grandmother and father's mother, the Powers family bible--I don't know who has this now--and the National Archives Civil War records.

Information on Edward Welborn was obtained from Dolores Despain, daughter of Louise Mae Welborn who I believe lived somewhere in San Bernardino. Information on Susan (or Suzanna) Hopkins Bailiff was obtained from Mary Suzanna Melton and Calvin Melton of 660 Ave. I St, Coronado, CA. Susan Hopkins Bailiff was also married to an H. H. Young.

From the same source father recorded that Calvin Nance Melton was married to an Elizabeth and a Fannie Melton. The father and mother of Susan Hopkins Bailiff was Edmond Pryor Bailiff and Susan Dolan. They had 14 children of whom the 11th was Susan. Information on this family came from the widow of Elva Bailiff through Mary Suzanna Melton of Long Beach California and from the 1840 census records of Jennings County, Indiana. Most of the family including Susan were born in Clermont County, Ohio, between 1821 and 1836.

Information on Daniel Bailiff and Martha Ferguson, the mother and father of Edmond T. Bailiff came from the same source. Information on Daniel's father Daniel Bailiff or Bayliffe and Sarah Thatcher came from Mrs Alva B. Bailiff. Sarah's mother and father were Richard Thatcher and Edith Grubb. Richard's father was Jonathan Thatcher and Hannah Dicks. Information on Jonathan Thatcher and Hannah Dicks came from Emma W. Barr through Mrs. Alva B. Bailiff.

I hope this may be helpful.

Sincerely,

James L. Hopkins, MD.
