Sir John Melton of Aston and Kilham, de jure 7th Lord Lucy, was born about 1377 (age 22 in 1399).[1][2]
He was the son and heir of Sir William de Melton and his wife Elizabeth, possibly Everingham.
Before 1415 he married Margaret Clifford, daughter of Sir Roger de Clifford of Appleby, 5th Lord Clifford, and his wife Maud de Beauchamp.[3]
They had two sons (Sir John, and Anthony) and three daughters (Thomasin[4], wife of Henry Pierrepont Esq, Margaret, wife of John Markenfield Esq, and _____, wife of _____ Hastings).[5]
He is probably the Sir John Melton of Aston, Yorkshire, who together with SIr Geoffrey Fitzhugh of Ravensworth, Yorkshire, held land in Whitwill, Derbyshire, in 1431.[6]
He died on 24 May 1455.[citation needed] He left a will dated 1 April 1455, in which he is described as "Johannes Melton miles, senior" (John Melton, knight, the elder). He asked to be buried in the parish of Aston and appointed his sons John and Anthony as his executors. He left a bequest to his nephew, Thomas Everingham of Newhall. His will was proved at York on 8 September 1455.[7] An inquisition post mortem was held in 33 Henry VI (1454/5).[2][8]

Marlyn Lewis. (Says his son John was 7th Lord Lucy and married Elizabeth Hilton, plus 2nd wife born in 1455, and died 1510. Cites Wallop Family. Looks questionable.)
