Robert Menzies was born in Scotland.

ROBERT MENZIES, 8TH OF WEEM, was infeft in 1523 of the barony of Weem, including Enoch.[1] He was the son of Robert Menzies and Margaret Lindsay. He had married, (1) the contract being dated 22 November 1503, CHRISTINA GORDON, daughter of Alexander Gordon, 3rd Earl of Huntly, by Janet Stewart, daughter of John Stewart, 1st Earl of Atholl.[2], who died 17 February 1525 and was buried at Weem.[3] By 8 December 1526 he had already arranged a marriage contract between himself and (2) MARION CAMPBELL, daughter of Archibald Campbell, 2nd Earl of Argyll, by Elizabeth Stewart, daughter of John Stewart, 1st Earl of Lennox.[4] On 10 November 1528 he received a crown grant of the 10 merklands of Dalpeddar and Glenmyn and the 2 merklands of Dalgonar from James Douglas of Drumlanrig, which lands were redeemed in 1540 and he appears to have attempted to regain the lands of Fothergill for his family from the Stewarts but without any lasting success.[5] He was dead by 1557 when his only son (by his first marriage) and successor was retoured his heir.[6]
