Edward Lee Mercer was born on August 1, 1893, in Baxley, Appling, Georgia, United States, son of John Christopher Mercer (1865–1920) and Nancy Celeta Deen (1875–1915). [1] [2]

Eddie served in the US Army during World War I. His duty was with the 17th Infantry Regiment. [3] [4]

Eddie married Ziphia Ethel Murphy (born on November 21, 1904, in Appling County, Georgia, USA; daughter of John Henry Murphy and Nancy Jane (Peacock) Murphy) on 8 October 1920. [5] [6] [7]

Their children were:

  1. Nancy Beatrice Mercer (1923–2017)
  2. David William Mercer (1925–2004)
  3. Henry Lee Mercer (1928–1983)
  4. Pauline Luverna Mercer (1931–1998)
  5. Rufus Colquitt Mercer (1937–1993)

Eddie died on April 1, 1974, in Alma, Bacon, Georgia, aged 80. [8] He is buried in Big Creek Cemetery, Bacon County, Georgia. [9]
